Our Story

How Modibodi was Born

Modibodi® was founded by Kristy Chong, an Australian mum of four on a mission. Kristy came up with the Modibodi concept while training for a marathon in 2011 and experiencing light incontinence. While out running one day, Kristy realised the main solution available to manage incontinence was disposable hygiene products, which are ugly, inconvenient, uncomfortable, often unreliable, and bad for the environment.

Puzzled by the fact the disposable hygiene and apparel sector hadn’t evolved with advancing technology, Kristy set out to create an entirely new solution and revolutionized the category.

She launched with a small range of patented leak-proof underwear, and the rest is history. That one pair has since grown into a whole new category of sustainable, reusable absorbent apparel.

What is Life-changing apparel?

All Modibodi products go through a rigorous scientific process to validate functions like absorbency and breathability. Our garments are all tested to ensure they last and perform after 100 washes, and are OKEO-TEX certified which means they are free from harmful substances.

We’re proud to champion uncomfortable conversations around periods, incontinence, breast milk, sweat and more. We believe in sharing diverse bodies in our advertising, de-stigmatising bodily leaks and promoting equality and inclusion for all people.

Through our genuine commitment to climate action and providing an alternative to disposable pads and tampons, we’re committed to being leaders in sustainable apparel. Sustainability is at the heart of our daily operations.

Our Journey so far

When we started, we wanted to empower the world to make a real, positive change for themselves, and for the planet. Now, years later, our team has grown and Modibodi is sold across the globe. But it didn’t happen overnight. Here’s how we went from leak-proof underwear to Life-changing apparel.
